Talk by Pr. Faustina Hwang

Pr. Faustina Hwang, from Reading University (UK), visited us on June 23rd. Her research interests concern assistive technologies, mainly for older adults and people with learning disabilities.

Title of the talk:

Interactive Technologies for Older Adults and People with Disabilities: Projects in Nutrition and Multisensory Museums

Abstract:
This talk will present two projects about designing and deploying technologies with different user groups (older adults and people with learning disabilities) and in different contexts (older people’s homes and museums/heritage sites).  NANA (Novel Assessment of Nutrition and Ageing) is a touchscreen system designed for older people to use at home to record data about their dietary intake, cognition, mood and appetite, and physical function and activity.  The system was used by older people at home for one-week on three separate occasions, in a study to validate the system against traditional methods of assessment.  The Interactive Sensory Objects project engages people with learning disabilities as co-researchers and co-designers in the development of multisensory interactive artworks with the aim of making museums more inclusive.  Central to the project is a series of workshops and activities engaging people with learning disabilities in three strands of activity - multisensory explorations, making artwork, and advocacy - supported by a range of technologies.
